BHS FOOTBALL KICKS OFF THE SEASON 5-0
by: Erin F.
The BHS Railroader football team has sprinted to a great start, pulling off a 5-0 record. This is the first time since 1980 that Brunswick has started off the season 5-0. This exciting record was equaled on October 1st against Boonsboro High. Josh Allison led the way statistically for the Railroaders as he accounted for 7 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 caused fumbles and numerous QB hurries due to his presence in the backfield. After a scoreless 1st quarter, Ian Fisher found Blaine Price in the second quarter for a 40 yard touchdown strike. Tate Rolland scored on a 4 yard run in the fourth quarter to give Brunswick a 22-0 lead. The Railroaders went back to work and after a 44 yard touchdown pass to Chance Smith, the game was well in hand. Rolland added the extra point and Brunswick went on to a 29-0 win. We all wish this hard working team luck as they take on Bishop Walsh in the BHS homecoming game tonight.
U-14 PVYA GIRLS SOCCER
by: Erin F.
Brunswick’s Lady Railroaders u-14 soccer team is 8 games into the season with 2 games left. So far they are 0-6-2. They have been battling hard but just can’t pull out a win. Their past game, they tied in a very intense contest. At the beginning the opposing team had already went up 2-0. But then Abby W was put up at mid-field and “bent the net” with a beautiful goal. By half-time it was 2-0. The Lady Roaders got their heads in the game and Erin F scored a goal on a beautiful pass and a fast break to the goal, 1 on 1. It was a well fought game and it ended in a 2-2 tie. We wish this hardworking team lot’s of luck for their final games.
FALL BALL
Staff Reports
Brunswick Middle’s local basketball team, “Shock”, began the fall ball season on a low note of 0-4. All games are played at Oakdale High school. Shock is a team of many different personalities that make up a phenomenal, interesting team. We have the loud, the quiet, and even the crazy. This perfectly meshed team consists of six 8th graders, Erin F, Lindsey J, Carly C, Katy M, Erin C, and Katelyn A; four 7th graders, Alexis O, Alexis B, Jana P, and Alicia C; and two 9th graders, Peyton A, and Melanie Y. This awesome team is coached by Mike Zigler and Alicia Stauffer. As the season heats up, we wish this team lot’s of luck in their fall ball league.
AJAX
Staff Reports
Representing Brunswick in the boys BBSL league, the Ajax have a record of 3-0-1(3 wins, 0 losses, and 1 tie). The Ajax won their first game against a strong Forest Hill team 4-1, coming back from a 1-0 deficit. In their second game they won the match by a score of 7 to 2.
The Ajax’s third game was a disappointing 2-2 tie against a weak South Carroll. It was an ugly game in which Coach Greg Dassel received a yellow card for disagreeing with a call the ref made. The two goals scored were both fluke goals coming of missed traps in front of the goal. One shot was nearly saved by Tucker D., but the ball bounced off the post and into the goal. The Ajax’s two goals were scored by Brayden V. and Brandon F. The game was plagued by bad calls that even the parents complained about.
The Ajax played back to form in a 2-0 win that was more lopsided than the score suggests. The first goal came late in the first half, when Brayden V. passed the ball backed to Luca R. Luca then chipped the ball into the box and Andrew H. headed the ball of the post and into the goal to put the Ajax up 1-0. The second goal came the middle of the second half when Brayden V. passed the ball in to Brandon F. He took a shot that went over the keeper’s outstretched hands and into the goal.
On Wednesday October 6th the Ajax scrimmaged a Middletown team. They dominated the game, winning 5-0, although struggling to score a goal early.
The Ajax are currently leading the league.

Major League Baseball-American League Cy Young
by: Connor K.
The A.L. Cy young award is given to the best pitcher in the American League every year.
This year the candidates are Felix Hernandez, David Price, C.C. Sabathia, Clay Buchholz, and Jon Lester.
In my opinion “King Felix” will win the award. Here are how I rank the contenders.
1. Felix Hernandez
2. David Price
3. Clay Buchholz
4. C.C. Sabathia
5. Jon Lester
Felix’s Case: The Mariners pitcher has a sub 3 ERA at a slim 2.27. He has a great strikeout total at 232 coupled with few walks (70), a great combination for success. Another key stat that shows his dominance is that the American league only batted .212 against him. Felix’s downside is his 13-12 record. But that will be quickly overlooked when people find out that in his 12 losses he only got 14 runs of support from his team.
David’s case.. The Rays pitcher has an ERA of 2.72 which is good. He also has 19 wins and 188k’s. he posted a dominating .221 Batting Average Against. He was also on a great Rays team. David’s downside is his ERA. Though it is very great it is a half run worse per game then Felix Hernandez. He also has less strikeouts and more walks.
Clay’s case.. He has a great ERA at 2.33. He also went 17-6 with the Red Sox. Clay’s downside he is not a strikeout pitcher wich is what voters look for and Felix Hernandez is better in every area except record.
C.C.’s case is that he has a great win total at 21. He has over 200 k’s and very few walks. His batting average against is very low as well.
Downside is his ERA is the higher the Price, Hernandez, and Buchholz.
Jon’s case is that he has a high strikeout total. He has 19 wins witch is second among the candidates. Jon’s downside is he got in trouble with a lot of walks and that raised his ERA over 3.00.
