Exclusive interview with BMS Principal, Mrs. Keiling
by: Svati K.
Q. How long have you been a principal?
A. This is my 6th year. My past years have been spent at Thurmont Middle School as principal. And I was an assistant principal at TJ Middle, and a sub principal for 3 months there.
Q. Do you enjoy it here?
A. Yes. Brunswick means a lot. I started my career here at Brunswick, when the high school was grades 7-12. I was a teacher there. BMS is quite similar to Thurmont Middle, and I loved it there as well.
Q. Why did you make all of these new rules?
• The gum rule: Because this is a beautiful building, and shouldn’t be damaged. Some students stuck their gum under tables, between doors, and many other places. Also the custodians shouldn’t be cleaning up gum on a side of a chair.
• The advisory rule: This was a county rule, made by FCPS. They wanted a type of advisory that incorporates both tutoring time along with enrichment classes.
• The seating during lunch: It was designed for security and safety reasons. It’s easier to maintain and control. Without this, I wouldn’t know where you were sitting. I am still letting you sit with friends, and its just easier to control.
Other comments from the principal:
“I am really happy to be here. There is a great student body. I look forward to a great year. There is real potential in this school.”
