School Events-Kids Helping Kids Food Drive
On October 11-31 we will be holding the Kids Helping Kids food drive. They would like non-perishable food cans. Please turn your cans into your advisory teacher.
More then 12 million kids deal with hunger. 205,853 kids under the age of 18 have a lack of access to food called food insecure. 65,089 children in Maryland that are under the age of 5 are at the risk of hunger. Younger children face mental and physical issues.
If you participate in the food drive you help Maryland Food Banks feed 70,000 kids. These programs are in need of food donations:
• The School Pantry Program
• Supper Club
• Summer Food Service Program
• The Backpack Program
The poverty income estimates in Frederick County are:
• All ages, 11,540 or 5.3%
• Under the age of 18, 3,660 or 6.4%
• Ages 5-17, 2,276 or 5.5%
The most needed items in the community are the following:
• Canned meat
• Peanut butter
• Nuts and seeds
• Dried beans
• Powdered milk
• Canned fruit and juices
• Canned veggies
• Canned soups and stews
• Oatmeal or breakfast cereals
• Rice or rice cakes
• Pasta
• Dry box baby food
We hope you donate to this great cause. You may not get credit, but you know that you did something to help.
