Sports: La Liga Superstars
by: Luca R. and Connor K.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo top La Liga with 24 goals each in 23 games. Messi recently had a hatrick against Atlético Madrid. His team, Barcelona, won 3-0 because of his goals. Soon after that Argentina and Portugal played a friendly with Argentina pulling out the 2-1 win. Lionel Messi scored on a penalty kick in the 90th minute for the clinching goal. The first goal of the game was scored in the 14th minute by Angel Di Maria. Cristiano Ronaldo tied the game up in the 20th minute. Messi was fouled late in the game. He ran up and tapped the ball into the goal. The goalie moved a fraction of a second before Messi, and Messi reacted quickly and kicked the ball in the opposite direction of the goalies dive. Portugal was lucky to even be in the game. The only reason they had a chance was because of Cristiano Ronaldo who scored their only goal.
Barcelona tops the league in points, while Real Madrid (Ronaldo’s team) is second place in La Liga. After Ronaldo and Messi comes Villa in the goal standings with 15 goals. Messi also has 15 assists compared to Ronaldo’s 7. Possibly one reason Messi has great stats is that he plays in La Liga, with the worst teams except for Barcelona, who is possibly the best club team in the world. Messi’s squad includes many big names including David Villa and world class midfielder Xavi. The biggest names on Ronaldo’s team include Kaka and Iker Casillas.
The third place team in La Liga is Valencia. Valencia has no big names on the team at all. In the premier league the leader in goals has only 19 goals compared to their 24. In the Serie A the leader only has 20. The reason they have much more is because of weaker teams to play. Putting that aside, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are two of the world’s best players.
