Headlines: It's Getting Busy at the Kennedy Center

by: Ben K.

Now for those of you who may not know the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is a performing arts center in Washington D.C. They have many events including the Millennium Stage performances which occurs 360 days a year rain, shine, sleet, snow, or even hail. Another good thing about it is that it’s completely free, no tickets required. However I’m not only going to talk about those, I’m also going to talk about all of the others. You can find all this information at http://www.kennedy-center.org/calendar/?fuseaction=showmonth

The first list of events I’m going to talk about occur today, February 18th, 2011. The first event on that night happens to be the Millennium Stage Performance, which is Asheru, who is a D.C. based performer who performed the opening and closing themes for the Boondocks. (Hip- Hop). This starts at 6:00pm and is one hour long. The next event is Barbara Cook’s Spotlight: Alexande Gemignani: All at Once, this is in the Terrace theater and does require purchased tickets. This starts at 7:30pm. The only other event happening there that night is a showing of Shear Madness at 8:00pm. This is in the Theater Lab, and also does require purchased tickets.

Now onto Saturday, February 19th, 2011. The first non sold out event is at 2:00pm in the Terrace Theater. This is a musical piano act by the Washington Performing Arts Society with Simon Trpceski. The next event is the Millennium Stage which always starts at 6:00 and ends at 7:00pm. Performing is the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra. The next two events are the same only at different times. It’s Shear Madness with one showing at 6:00pm, and one at 9:00pm.

Ok, so now that we’re done with the 18th and 19th I’m going to move onto the 20th. The first event happening on the 20th is at 2:00pm; this is S&R Foundation Presents: the Music of Koji Nakano in the Terrace Theater. After that at 3:00 in the Theater Lab is a showing of Shear Madness. At 4:00 in the Family Theater is a showing of 46 Circus Acts in 45 minutes. After that is the 6:00 Millennium Stage showing of Dr. Everett N. Jones III. Then a 7:00 showing of Shear Madness in the Theater Lab.

The Kennedy Center is doing one special thing for Presidents Day, they are hosting the National Presidents Day Choral Festival starting at 2:00pm. This does require pre purchased tickets. After that is only the Millennium Stage performance of the Curtis Institute of Music.

Now onto February 22nd. The first event happening is the 6:00 Millennium Stage performance of the New England Conservatory of Music. Also at 6:00 is the KC Pedestrian Access Improvement project, (public meeting). Then at 8:00 a showing of Shear Madness.

Alright, well those are all the events that I’m going to talk about in this article, and remember if you want to find out some more details and ticket pricing, go to the link above.
