Champions League Soccer Check-up

Three players topped the Champions League in goals. Lionel Messi has 9 goals and leads the UEFA Champions League. Samuel Eto’o and Mario Gomez each have 8 goals. Samuel Eto’o also had 5 assists, second of all players. Real Madrid led all teams in points with 16. Unbeaten teams included Manchester United, Barcelona, and Real Madrid. Leaders of their division were Tottenham Hotspur, Schalke 04, Manchester United, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Shakhtar Donetsk. In the round of 16 Barcelona lost its first game to Arsenal 2-1 but came back to win the next game 3-1. They advanced into the quarterfinals. Shakhtar Donetsk beat AS Roma by an aggregate score of 6-2. Chelsea beat FC Copenhagen 2-0 in the second game after tying the first 0-0. Manchester United beat Marseille 2-1 in the first game and tied 0-0 in the second. Inter Milan beat Bayern Munich 3-3 after a tiebreaker. Schalke 04 beat Valencia 4-2 in two games. Real Madrid beat Lyon 4-1. Tottenham Hotspur beat AC Milan 1-0 and then tied 0-0.




In the quarterfinals Barcelona routed Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 in the first game. In the second game Messi scored the only goal for a 1-0 Barcelona win. Manchester United edged Chelsea 1-0 in their first match and squeezed out a 2-1 win in the second game. Schalke 04 ran over Inter Milan in a 5-2 win and then proceeded to beat them 2-1 in the second game. Real Madrid shutout Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 in their first match and followed that up with up with a 1-0 win. Schalke 04 is playing Manchester United and Barcelona is playing Real Madrid in the semi-finals.
